This FENDER Custom Shop Double Esquire Custom Closet Classic #CZ590971 (9235700080) is an attractive reimagining of the 1960 Telecaster Custom, perfectly combining a majority of strictly vintage features with more modern elements.
Its craftsmanship (assembly, fretting, finishes) is absolutely flawless, as is the selection of its components: a body made of “sort for lightweight” roasted ash, a bolt-on neck made of torrefied “plain grain” maple (60s Oval C profile), a “sort for dark” rosewood fingerboard (21 narrow-tall frets, 9.5” radius), Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 neck pickup, and Custom Shop hand-wound ’51 Nocaster bridge pickups.
In addition to giving the wood an elegant patina, the torrefaction process improves the instrument’s stability, sustain, clarity, and resonance, while protecting it from temperature fluctuations, humidity, and mold.
