Crafted by experienced luthiers, the FENDER Made in Japan Traditional 60s Mustang solid body electric guitar (5384300314) is a reinterpretation of the original Mustang, the first generation of which was produced from 1964 to 1982. Initially designed as a beginner’s model with smaller dimensions and a short scale length, it eventually gained popularity among leading musicians. The late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana is likely its most famous advocate.

The Traditional 60s Mustang is built to a largely traditional specification: a basswood body, a bolt-on maple neck, a rosewood fingerboard, a 24" scale, 22 vintage frets, a 9.5" radius, and a U-shaped neck profile.
This design produces a rich and dynamic acoustic foundation, with thick, punchy lows, smooth mids, and clear highs.
Available, affordable, lightweight, easy to work with, and tonally appealing, basswood gained popularity in the 1980s, particularly among the most prominent shredders. Similar to alder, though with more subdued mids and highs and a balanced frequency response, it is ultimately quite neutral. As a result, it lets the pickups take center stage.

The Fender MIJ ’60s Mustang is equipped with a pair of traditional Fender single-coil pickups, along with a volume control, a tone control, and two toggle switches: a three-position switch to select the pickups, and an on/off switch to activate phase reversal.
Combined with classic Fender craftsmanship, they deliver a range of sounds that are classic in the truest sense of the word—lively and dynamic.
