Gibson Southern Jumbo 40s Original (Baggs HiFi DNA Preamp) - vintage sunburst
The Gibson Southern Jumbo was originally produced from 1942 to 1978 and was conceived as a more luxurious version of the ultra-popular J-45 Round Shoulder. Original World War II-era models are among the most sought-after steel-string acoustic guitars on the vintage market, particularly those with a rosewood back and sides.
Its warm, expressive, and balanced tone has made it a timeless instrument prized for its versatility.
The all-solid-wood construction of the GIBSON Original Collection Southern Jumbo (OCRSSJ40HFVS) combines traditional woods with a Sitka spruce top, a rosewood body, a mahogany neck, and a rosewood fingerboard (20 frets). This traditional combination produces a sound that is full, warm, and responsive, with rich, well-defined bass, balanced mids, and crisp highs.
This original Southern Jumbo is equipped with the exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA system.
The HiFi DNA system uses two pickups positioned under the bridge instead of the usual piezo. They perform recordings of vibrations from both the strings and the soundboard. The result is an even more natural and dynamic sound that faithfully reproduces the instrument’s original acoustic character.
Each Baggs HiFi DNA pickup has its own active preamp. The volume and tone controls are located on the inner edge of the soundhole.
The Southern Jumbo Original is a thoroughly versatile electro-acoustic steel-string acoustic guitar that will suit most musicians, regardless of their musical style or playing technique (fingerpicking, strumming).
