Tascam FR-AV4

The TASCAM FR-AV4 is a professional, portable 4-channel audio recorder designed for videographers, sound engineers, content creators, and audiovisual professionals. Combining high-resolution recording quality, an integrated mixer, and advanced audio/video synchronization features, it serves as a versatile solution for film shoots, interviews, documentaries, and cinematic productions.

With 32-bit float recording at up to 192 kHz, the FR-AV4 captures the subtlest sonic nuances while providing extensive flexibility for level adjustments during post-production. Its dual analog-to-digital converter technology ensures a dynamic range of at least 133 dB, while its Ultra HDDA microphone preamps—featuring an equivalent input noise of -127 dBu or lower—guarantee precise, detailed reproduction, even with low-level sound sources.

Equipped with four XLR/TRS combo inputs, the FR-AV4 allows for the simultaneous recording of four independent audio sources, plus a stereo mix, totaling six recording tracks. Its built-in mixer offers precise control over levels, panning, and audio processing, including an equalizer, low-cut filter, limiter, and noise gate. The "Auto Mixer" function—available as of firmware 1.10—also simplifies the management of multiple speakers during conferences, debates, or interviews.

The integrated timecode generator facilitates the synchronization of sound and image with compatible cameras and equipment. Thanks to its HDMI connections, the FR-AV4 can synchronize its internal clock with a camera, trigger recording, and pass through video signals at resolutions up to 8K at 30 Hz or 4K at 60 Hz. Multiple FR-AV4 units can also be daisy-chained via HDMI to increase the number of available tracks while maintaining precise synchronization across all devices.

For demanding audio capture scenarios, the FR-AV4 supports Ambisonic recording (in both A-format and B-format) as well as Mid-Side decoding. It also features a 3.5 mm mini-jack input for connecting external audio sources or microphones that require plug-in power.

By adding the TASCAM AK-BT2 Bluetooth adapter (sold separately), users can enable wireless monitoring and remote control via the TASCAM Recorder Connect app, which is compatible with iOS, iPadOS, and Android. This adapter also facilitates wireless timecode synchronization with select compatible Atomos devices.

The FR-AV4 can also function as a 6-input, 2-output USB-C audio interface, supporting resolutions up to 32-bit floating-point. Its 1.9-inch color touchscreen, combined with a navigation dial and dedicated physical controls, makes it easy to adjust settings and monitor levels during recording.

Designed for professionals in the field, the FR-AV4 features a rugged aluminum chassis and a compact form factor that integrates easily into any production setup. It can be powered by four AA batteries, via USB-C, or through an optional AC adapter, offering great flexibility for use both on location and in the studio.
