Waldorf Iridium Desktop MK2
With the Iridium Desktop MK2, Waldorf is evolving one of its most iconic synthesizers. Since its launch in 2020, the Iridium Desktop has established itself as a benchmark for musicians, producers, and sound designers thanks to its exceptional synthesis power and creative flexibility. This new generation pushes the boundaries of sound creation even further.
Based on the multi-engine architecture that made the Quantum and Iridium series so successful, the Iridium Desktop MK2 benefits from a new design and an updated hardware platform. Its more powerful processor, combined with significantly increased RAM and flash storage, allows for the handling of more samples, layers, and complex processing.
The launch of the Iridium Desktop MK2 also coincides with the 4.0 system update, available for all Quantum and Iridium models. This version notably introduces the Mutator random patch generator, a new polyphonic arpeggiator, and advanced microtonal features that can be saved directly to presets.
More memory, more creativity
Thanks to increased available memory, the Iridium Desktop MK2 can now handle up to four multitimbral layers simultaneously. In addition to the traditional Layer and Split modes, Round-Robin and Random-Robin modes are now available, offering richer, more organic, and evolving sonic textures. This is a particularly welcome feature for sound designers, composers, and film score creators.
"Seeds": a new approach to synthesis
The increased RAM allows for the introduction of a sixth synthesis engine called Seeds. Inspired by wavetable synthesis, this new mode goes beyond simply exploring static waveforms. It dynamically generates timbral transitions from sub-oscillators called "Seeds," paving the way for entirely new and constantly evolving sounds.
Flavour Function
First introduced on the Waldorf Protein synthesizer, the Flavour control adds realism and movement to the sound through subtle variations in timing, timbre, pitch, and other parameters. The result is more vibrant, organic, and naturally expressive.
Parameter Locking by Note
Developed in collaboration with Aphex Twin, this unique feature allows you to assign up to 16 different parameter variations to each of the 128 available MIDI notes. Synthesis modes, effects, modulations, or specific settings can thus be varied note by note. All modifications are saved within the preset and accessible from a dedicated editing page, opening up new possibilities for programming and performance.
