Neumann TLM 102

The TLM 102 microphone represents a new generation of Neumann studio microphones, both in its design and its price point. Its compact dimensions contribute to an exceptionally sleek appearance, incorporating all the typical elements of a Neumann microphone. Its harmonious proportions and the shiny ring beneath the grille ensure that the TLM 102 immediately catches the eye.

In terms of sound, the TLM 102 is impressive: it features a new large-diaphragm capsule with a cardioid pickup pattern, capable of handling a maximum sound pressure level of 144 dB, allowing it to record high-level sound sources such as percussion, drums, guitar or bass amps, and other loud sources. But even lower-level instruments will benefit from the TLM 102's very fast transient response.

However, its primary application remains vocals, both sung and spoken: a slight rise in the frequency response above 6 kHz ensures excellent vocal presence in the mix. Up to 6 kHz, the frequency response is very linear, resulting in minimal coloration and a clearly defined bass. The capsule is mounted on a shock mount, eliminating solid-borne noise transmission. An integrated pop screen on the grille helps eliminate plosives during close-mic vocals recordings.
