Roland n/vision
The Roland n/vision is a wavetable synthesizer from the Roland Boutique series, designed to offer advanced sound-creation capabilities in a compact, portable format. Combining digital wavetable synthesis with modern Roland technologies, it enables the creation of evolving textures, complex sounds, and harmonically rich timbres. Its interface combines directly accessible physical controls with in-depth editing functions to meet the needs of producers, sound designers, and electronic musicians.
At the heart of the n/vision lies a two-layer wavetable synthesis architecture, combined with a two-part multitimbral structure. The Dual and Split modes allow you to explore different sound combinations, while the Upper and Lower parts each feature two layers of wavetables that can be blended and shaped independently. This design allows you to produce everything from evolving pads to aggressive leads, dynamic digital textures, and experimental sounds.
The n/vision also stands out for its advanced modulation capabilities. The position within the wavetables, the balance between layers, pitch, and sound-shaping parameters can be modulated by various sources. A step LFO and oscillator modulation functions allow you to create rhythmic movements, gradual transformations, and complex sonic variations. A Spread control helps widen the stereo image.
Wave Shaper technology expands synthesis capabilities through nonlinear waveform processing. It generates new harmonics and produces textures that go beyond the capabilities of traditional wavetable synthesis. This feature is complemented by several filter models inspired by classic synthesizers, as well as an analog-modeling filter that includes a Drive function to accentuate the character and harmonic richness of the sounds.
For sound processing, the Roland n/vision offers 17 types of multi-effects, including Roland’s famous JUNO chorus. It also features a dedicated delay and a reverb with five different types. Shimmer mode adds an octave-shifted coloration to the selected reverb, allowing you to create spacious ambiences and particularly airy textures.
The n/vision features a 64-step, two-part polyphonic sequencer capable of handling up to eight notes per step and recording parameter movements. It allows you to build bass lines, chords, and melodic sequences while evolving the sounds over time. A built-in arpeggiator complements the composition and performance capabilities by generating evolving rhythmic and melodic patterns.
Its control panel features numerous knobs, sliders, and buttons for directly manipulating the main synthesis parameters. This intuitive approach is complemented by menus providing access to advanced programming functions, enabling detailed sound design both in the studio and on stage.
In terms of connectivity, the n/vision features a USB-C audio/MIDI interface, MIDI IN and OUT connections, and an external clock input for synchronization with other instruments and electronic equipment. It can thus be integrated into a computer-based production setup or a hardware environment combining multiple synthesizers and sequencers.
True to the Roland Boutique concept, the n/vision features a compact design with a white finish and matching side panels. Its built-in speaker and power supply—which runs on four AA batteries or USB-C—make it ideal for on-the-go use. Bundled with the Roland K-25m keyboard, it is a self-contained and easily transportable instrument, suitable for composition, sound experimentation, and electronic performances.
