Radial JDI Stereo
The Radial JDI Stereo is a passive stereo direct box designed to handle extreme signal levels without any distortion. Unlike active DIs—which are limited by the buffer amplifier's rail voltage—the Radial JDI Stereo employs a pair of Jensen audio transformers that handle signal balancing and impedance reduction, allowing for long cable runs. Consequently, no power supply is required. The magic lies in the Jensen transformers within the circuit; they are renowned for their ability to handle transients accurately while delivering a silky smoothness reminiscent of vintage gear. With a flat frequency response from 10 Hz to 40 kHz and virtually zero phase deviation, the Radial JDI Stereo delivers the instrument's pure, natural sound, free from artifacts. In addition to converting the unbalanced signal to low impedance, the transformers isolate the input from the output, filtering out stray DC voltage that can cause noise and ground loops. This allows the audio to pass through while eliminating such issues. The Radial JDI Stereo features a pair of 1/4" jack connectors and a -15 dB input pad on each channel. It is rounded out by a ground lift switch that disconnects pin 1 on the two XLR outputs to reduce hum and buzz caused by ground loops. The unit is housed in an extremely rugged steel enclosure. Its "book-end" design, combined with the transformers' Mu-metal shielding, acts as a Faraday cage to protect against strong magnetic fields—such as those generated by amplifiers—ensuring noise- and hum-free signal transfer. The original JDI has become the industry-standard passive direct box for professional touring and studios worldwide; the stereo version is undoubtedly destined for the same success.
